How Do I Copy A Panopto Video to Another Course

While Panopto is typically most useful for recording a class in real time, you can copy lectures from previous classes to a current class. Note: If you are transferring the whole course, use the Bulk Copy/Move option. It allows you to copy the whole collection of videos for a course at once.

Single video copy

This is the preferred method to move/copy videos into another course.

  1. Go to the course with the videos in it.
  2. Hover over the video, then click on Settings.
  3. Go to Manage/Copy. This generates the copy, and changes the settings window you see to the copied video. DON’T CLOSE THE WINDOW!
  4. Delete the word “copy” from the title. DON’T CLOSE THE WINDOW!
  5. Switch to the Overview pane in the settings window.
  6. For the Parent Folder setting, click Edit.
  7. Select the folder for the new course.

Share the video, then paste the link

Less preferable, because the video can now be seen by anyone (or any student who can see Panopto).

  1. Hover over the video, then click on Settings.
  2. Click Share. Add “Anyone who can sign in to this site” to the list of people who can see the video.
  3. Paste the “share” link into the Canvas course.
